Fishing

Trout fishing can be done in the River Adour a branch of which runs alongside River Cottage but you will need to buy a tourist fishing licence. The Carte de Pêche de Vacances covers you for 15 consecutive days and currently costs about 28 euros and can be used between 1st June and 30th November. After 30th November and before 1st June an annual fishing permit is obligatory. If you are more of a ‘shoot fish in a barrel’ type of fisherman, then there is a trout farm at the bottom of the valley. Fishing is allowed during the season from half an hour before dawn to half an hour after sunset.
Fishing in the Bagnères-de-Bigorre and Campan areas are governed by the AAPPMA Grand Tourmalet. This stands for Association Agrée de Pêche et de Protection des Milieux Aquatiques which translates to Approved Association of Fisheries and Aquatic Environment Protection.
You can purchase fishing permits at the Grand Tourmalet outlets or directly on the site www.cartedepeche.fr
