We stayed at River Cottage in early September 2018 and had a fabulous time. The cottage is comfortable with all the normal amenities and has a nice garden with great views. To be honest, we didn’t stay in the cottage much as there is so much to do in the locality, from short walks to day long hikes, a quick ride to the shops to challenging rides up mountains (with heart pumping descents). The area is a cyclist’s dream. Many of the rides include iconic climbs from the Tour de France. The roads are quiet and you can ride two abreast for the majority of the time. Most motorists respect cyclists here! If you are going for the winter sports, the venue is ideal being only 30 minutes from some superb ski locations.
There are also many adventure type activities such as rock climbing, zip wires and canyoning amongst many others. Also opportunities for fishing and birdwatching.
The scenery in the Pyrenees is breathtaking. Some of the walks are quite challenging, but most areas are accessible by car or by jumping on the cable car! I would say the scenery even rivals New Zealand. If you’ve been there you’ll know what I mean! Rivers and waterfalls, huge mountain cliffs, deep gorges, quiet forests, snow capped mountains….
The cottage is situated in a very quiet rural location, but within easy drive/ride to local amenities with superb restaurants providing traditional food from local produce. The Saturday market in Bagnères de Bigorre is not to be missed.
Overall, a very enjoyable holiday in an area we would consider settling in for our retirement…

We enjoyed our stay at River Cottage, the comfortable house easily accommodated two couples. It is an ideal base for those who like challenging walks and cycle rides. Two excellent restaurants were only a short car ride down the valley. Great for wildlife and bird watching. The managers Sarah and Steve who live close by provided invaluable local knowledge which enhanced our stay considerably.

We spent a wonderfully relaxed week at River Cottage seeing in the new year. Beautiful walks by day and wine and a roaring fire at night. We visited La Mongie ski resort to sample the apres ski. Bought far too much cheese at the Bagneres de Bigorre market and a tonne of oysters for NYE
We loved sitting on the patio after a days walk, taking in the breath taking views and listening to the river flow. We would definitely recommend this cottage, everything you need for a really relaxed getaway.

Spent a fabulous 5 days in this gorgeous cottage. Typically french in furnishing, comfortable beds, fabulous garden and all amenities. Babbling brook runs through and alongside the garden, just wonderful. Loads of walks. Cycling, horse riding, skiing or visit a local spa! The local market is also a must do! We will definitely be back!
